Remove the dark cloud of PFAS and PFCs from your water repellent textiles
If you love the outdoors for relaxing or exercising, you probably wear shoes and clothing that have cutting-edge breathability, enhanced moisture-wicking fabrics, or unbeatable water resistance. But while these features might elevate your experience, this gear can come packed with invisible, long-lasting chemicals called per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and perfluorocarbons (PFCs), also known as "forever chemicals." These synthetic compounds resist water, oil, and heat, but their nearly indestructible nature makes them good at sticking around. When they inevitably escape from your jacket fibers into the environment, these chemicals end up infiltrating the soil and groundwater supplies—and yes, even your body—bringing health and environmental risks.
These chemicals have been linked to a range of serious health issues, including cancer, liver damage, increased cholesterol, hormonal imbalances, and immune system disruption. Studies have also shown that PFAS and PFC exposure can lead to developmental delays in children, increased risk of preeclampsia in pregnant women, and fertility issues in both men and women. The persistent nature of these chemicals means they accumulate in human and animal tissues over time, leading to long-term, compounding health risks that disproportionately affect vulnerable populations.
BUT there is no need to be concerned - Salus has an efficacious and eco-friendly alternative, that is an oil and water-repellent finish, without PFAS and PFCs, so with us you would not be completely in the dark.
We think it is best to go for natural materials. What do you think?
